Boscia Luminizing Black Mask Vs. True Blue Spa Blackberry Peel Off Mask

Today, I'm going to review and compare these two similar products. I have used the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask for quite some time and I really liked it. However, I've read mixed reviews on it so I'm guessing it may be a hit or miss depending on the type of skin you have and your expectation. The problem is that this mask is pretty expensive.
On the other hand, about a month ago, I went to Bath & Body Works to redeem a coupon and picked up a few skincare product. When I saw the Blackberry Peel Off mask, I immediately thought of the Boscia Black Mask. I felt like I had to try it so that I can compare the two.

Boscia Luminizing Black Mask
  • What it claims to do..."This jet-black, mineral-rich mask creates a unique peel-off effect that delivers powerful detoxifying, purifying, and brightening results. Made with a premiere-quality clay, its deep-cleansing properties draw out dirt and oil. Other natural ingredients go to work exfoliating skin and refining pores. Powerful antioxidants shrink pores, firm skin, and reduce inflammation. Once dried, the mask strips away dead skin, impurities and excess oil to reveal immediate and visible results." I got this info from Sephora's website.
  • $34 for 2.8 oz or 80 g.
  • Squeeze tube packaging. Twist off cap.
  • I have a hard time describing the scent but I don't find it unpleasant or overpowering.
True Blue Spa Blackberry Purifying Peel Off Face Mask
  • What it claims to do..."Peel away pore-clogging dirt, oil and debris to help keep your skin looking and feeling flawless with this chic black face mask with super antioxidant Blackberry and purifying Tea Tree Oil. Peels off like a pore strip when dry. Juicy blackberry scent. Not tested on animals . " I got this off from B&BW website.
  • $12.00 for 4 oz or 118 mL.
  • Squeeze tube packaging. Flip cap.
  • It smells just like berries.

How to use

  • Apply a thin layer of the mask on a freshly washed and dried face. For testing purpose, I applied each product on one side of my face, avoiding my brows and hairline. As you can see, the masks are pretty opaque and looks like I've just slapped some black paint on my face.

  • After 25 minutes, the masks are dry and ready to peel off. As you can see on the picture, I can't even smile anymore, lol, cause its that tight. By now, what it seems like black paint at first appears to look like black leather or rubber.

  • Pick a corner, and start peeling the mask off. The mask bonds very well on your skin so you will feel it pulling and peeling off the surface of your skin. I'm not sure how sensitive skin will react to that.

  • Wash off any residue from the mask that was left on your face.
  • As you can see in this picture, the mask is pretty strong and it didn't tear when I was peeling it off.
Comparison
  • Aside from having a different scent, both had the same texture and color.
  • I feel that the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask dried a little faster.
  • I felt a little bit of a cool sensation with both when the mask was still wet, but the True Blue Blackberry mask felt a little tingly. On the first try, the tingly feeling was actually irritating me to be honest but thereafter, it didn't bother me.
  • Both actually perform the same as far as lifting and peeling dead skin, removing dirt and oil.
  • My skin feels very smooth, clean, polished, tighter, and toned.
  • Even though I don't have large pores, I feel like it does shrink them a bit.

Final thought
  • There really isn't much difference as far as how both product works and performs.
  • I can't tell you at the moment what the long-term benefits of using them are, as that would take a few months of testing.
  • I don't really have problematic skin. I'm a bit oily on the T-zone and normal on the rest. Skincare works differently on each individual so what works for me might not work for you.
  • Even though I don't notice a big change in the condition of my skin, I really love the clean and toned feeling I get after I peel off the mask.
  • As far as price and value goes, the True Blue Blackberry is definitely more bang for your bucks and works just as well as the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask. If price was the issue then I would go with the True Blue Blackberry mask. Like I mentioned earlier, the only thing that bothered be at first was the tingling feeling but fortunately my skin was able to adjust to that.
  • With that said, I think the True Blue Blackberry Mask is a good alternative to the pricier Boscia Luminizing Black Mask.

I hope you found this comparison helpful. Let me know what you think of these two products if you've tried them. Thanks.

    1. It's not a miracle worker but it does a good job at lifting dead skin cells and smoothing out your skin. I probably wouldn't recommend if you have sensitive skin. The tingly sensation and the peeling can be a little harsh.
